Best New Travel Blogs Of September 2014

This month’s featured blogs focus primarily on adventure travel, cultural experiences, must-visit bucket list destinations, budget backpacking through Asia and much more. Dozens upon dozens of countries from the UK on down through the tips of Indonesia are covered in the following blogs, as well as enough food and exciting travel ideas to keep you occupied for a while…or at least until the next round of the best new travel blogs is released 😉

As far as this edition, well these are my favorite female travel bloggers. That’s right, it’s a ladies-only edition of the Best New Travel Blogs. (I don’t know what the official ratio is but most of the submissions I receive are from female bloggers…)

Girl Vs Globe

Best New Travel Blogs 2014: Girl vs Globe

From the moment I first read Sabina’s blog I was hooked. Why? The writing style is simply amazing! Sabina’s voice really shines through to the point where readers can almost hear her speaking aloud, telling her tale in real life to an audience of just one: you. She has been traveling for three years now but only started blogging back in January.

It’s a shame that soon Sabina will be pausing her travels for ten months to finish her political science degree. However given how far her blog has come already, not to mention a large backlog of pre-blogging adventures to write about, I have no doubt Sabina will keep up the great work here. In fact after reading so much of Sabina’s blog now I think I’ve developed a lil crush hahaha.

After being tipped off as to Jasmine’s blog I browsed through it and read damn near every post. What did I find? An ambitious adventurer and a blog that shows lots of potential. In it you will find destination information and recommended itinerary ideas, travel tips, advice on how to work/volunteer abroad and of course the obligatory reviews. Jasmine has already covered Asia and Australia and now has her eyes set on Europe. All she needs now is more loyal readers 🙂

Best New Travel Blogs: Adventurous Miriam

From boarding down various geologic formations on various types of boards in random countries to biking down Death Road in Boliva, Miriam definitely believes in finding lots of adventures along her journey. Although she has only been blogging for a few months already her blog has awesome posts on Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Oh and don’t miss her What Mom Doesn’t Know series, very entertaining. 😀

Best New Travel Blogs: Elena's Travelgram

Presenting a travel blog by a Ukrainian girl living in France and getting lost in different parts of the world. From Europe to India and Southeast Asia, Elena is making her way around the globe one trip at a time. Although English is not her native language she blogs well in it, dropping an amusing phrase or combination of words accidentally every so often. (It’s okay, I’m not being harsh, I mean this in a good way and in fact she freely admits this may happen.) It also reflects very energetic, free and positive spirit, and has definitely become another blog I always enjoy reading.

Stephanie’s blog is one of my newest discoveries but I like it very much. For starters Stephanie is already an accomplished photographer who has had photos printed in the travel sections of both the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times. Her blog, in addition to offering travel insights and advice, also contains useful tips and suggestions on how to improve your photography. For the last three years she and her husband have been living in Japan and traveling around Asia so if that’s an area that interests you, definitely give her blog a look.

  1. Interesting list and a great idea to boost new blog. I know 2 of them and i couldn’t agree more. Sabina’s blog is amazing and like you i think she’s onto something big. As for Elena she is an inspiration to other travellers with her fearless attitude to challenges and a positive vibe that you can feel through her posts. Makes me wanna check out the others in the list now. I would have liked to enter my blog sadly i’m no longer new… lol

    • If you love these Adrian then definitely check out the earlier editions of BNTBA…there are some real hidden gems in there 😉 Anyway congrats on the new blog, I just checked it out. Appears the travel bug has bitten you hard as well hehehe. I already bookmarked it and am looking forward to seeing what sort of adventures you get yourself into…keep in touch!

      • I’m already working my way through them, don’t you worry! It takes a while to explore a blog though. Yes, the travel bug bit me hard at a young age and I haven’t regretted it since. Always nice to meet people with the same affliction… 🙂 Definitely keep in touch!

  2. Cool list, thanks! It’s always nice to see what other travel bloggers are up to. There’s so many of them popping up it’s getting harder and harder to keep up 🙂 Still, many of them are a great source of inspiration and beauty. Safe travels!

    • You’re right, it’s damn hard to keep track of all these new blogs. In fact it was a Twitter question from one of my followers asking me how to do just that which prompted the launch of this series. Speaking of, wish I’d found your blog just a tiny bit sooner. Oh and BTW, you had me at “Who’s in charge of this joint anyway?” (the only way you could have made it better was by adding ‘So…’ in front of it 😉 )

    • Well the site is a work in progress but thanks 😉 speaking of, little known fact: The HoliDaze used to be called Shibuya Daze, in honor of my Tokyo roots…until I got tired of answering the “what is Shibuya?” question hahaha. Anyway hope y’all enjoy it there, please drink a Yebisu and say hi to Hachiko for me. Oh and keep up the awesome photography advice!

      Reply
      • Yea Shibuya Daze is definitely an interesting name for a site. I can imagine pretty much no one getting it!! Lol. Though it kinda limits you to Tokyo so your new name is very nice. But I’ll be sure to say hello to Hachiko!

    • So happy to hear you enjoy their blogs — and I’m sure they are too 😉 Miriam’s blog is a new one for me but I love it. Some of the stuff she does, wow! After all, if there’s one thing every trip needs it’s more adventure.

  3. All great blogs! Sabina has a really fantastic site and I always look forward to reading her posts.

I’d love to be included in a future feature, if you think my blog is good enough. It’s only 4 months old now, but I’m working furiously at getting it up and running (in between my 9 to 5).

  4. What a great list to work through. I had already found a couple but will take the time to read through the other ladies mentioned above as well now. I am always looking for new blogs to read that both inspire me to travel and also challenge me to consider my own writing. Having only been blogging seriously for a couple of months I am still trying to hone my skills and find my niche both in the travel and book reviewing world!

    • Awesome idea for a site! I am an avid reader but these last six months I just haven’t had the time to — at least anything in paperback form. Love your article on Jökulsárlón 🙂 and yes I’m the same as you, always looking for new blogs to keep me inspired and entertained. Have found some amazing ones too since I started this endeavor, both new and even blogs two or three years old that I’ve somehow overlooked.

  5. I’m another newbie, so again it’s great to see what other new travel bloggers are doing too. I’m already a reader of Girl v Globe, but hadn’t heard of the others. I’m a keen photographer and lover of all things Asia, so some great choices there! 🙂

    • Glad to hear Kiara, thanks. Yes, I think Sabina of Girl Vs Globe is the most well-known and well-read of these five blogs. She’s really kicking ass with her blog, I love it! And I’ve never heard of your blog so now it looks like I’ve got another new one to read 😉

  6. Great list! I’ve been following Sabina’s blog for the past couple months and you’re right. She writes so well. I need to learn how to emulate that! I haven’t heard too much about the others so gotta go check them out now.

  7. I know what you mean with Sabrina’s blog! I love reading her posts and I am sure she is going to get far! I also already knew the nomadic girl. But I am glad to discover Miriam’s blog. The what mum doesn’t know section is really entertaining!

    • Definitely agree with you about Sabina and Miriam’s What Mum Doesn’t Know series…thanks in part to their fascinating blogs recently I’ve found myself less productive because I’ve been doing too much reading and not enough writing, oops!

  8. Please correct me if I’m wrong but so far I was not able to find any blog (or even in the “destination” – “Asia”) anything about Luang Prabang, Laos? Please contact me in case any of you travel ladies is coming our way. Loads to do here that suites right in with all your adventures.

We do have a Facebook page under “hotellaos”

    Happy blogging and traveling.

    • Hey Amy, thanks, glad to hear….means I’m doing something right lol 😉 Honestly I’m just happy to help shine the light on a few new (and I feel as though I should add “AWESOME”) bloggers, not to mention keep finding entertaining new blogs to read when I’m waiting on my train / plane / jeepney / bus / becak / [insert transportation method here]

BTW the post you shared via CommentLuv is not only always and spot on accurate but it also coincides perfectly with the post I wrote yesterday (scheduled to go live tomorrow). It’s called “How To Not Act Like An American When Traveling Abroad” and as you might imagine I also included a couple of items that you mentioned, namely ice cubes and eating with your hands. However I took eating with your hands the other direction. I’ve noticed things Americans eat with their hands that other nations use silverware for (such as burgers in Asia) and vice versa (like meat, veggies, rice and well everything but soup in Africa, India and parts of Southeast Asia).

As useless as some of this knowledge may be in the grand scheme of life, these little things you learn abroad are exactly why I’ve chosen to live the life of a permanent nomad 🙂

      • I loved your post on not acting like an American abroad! I could not agree more about eating at McDonald’s. Some friends of mine from back home can’t understand why this irks me so much. But seriously! How can you choose the mystery ingredients of a McDonald’s meal over the heavenly fresh joy that is Spanish food!?! So glad I’m not the only one trying to get as far as possible from the terrible stereotype of an American tourist.

  11. That’s cool! I’m here via Sabine that I’ve been reading for a while! I wish I had known about this before to submit my blog too 😉 You can still check it out if you are so inclined, it’s fairly new, slowly growing, but missing a lil’ something called readers.. haha! 😉

    • Seems we’ve been a lot of the same places…you two really take all those photos by yourself? Got some sweet shots for sure 🙂 BTW awesome tats and tell ol’ dude that Wu-Tang is the shit always but the new sleeve looks much cooler. It also seems like you have begun writing a lot more since y’all upgraded to the nomadic lifestyle. Keep it up! 😀

  13. Funny how, by taking only a couple of steps, I tend to stumble across the same blogs over and over. I certainly know most from this month’s list and follow a number on Twitter.
I wonder if we qualify under your “1 year rule”? Our “blog” is certainly much younger, only established in May this year, but we used the same domain back in 2006-2009 for our travel reports and sharing information (all pages are still up and get good SERPs). That was when WordPress was still in its infancy, version 2.0 was only released after I had finished our site layout.
Our niche is very narrow and nothing like the usual backpackers’ or poshpacking blogs, as we only cover Latin America and travel it in our own overland vehicle. Right now the site might be lacking a little “direction”, but that’s because Yasha, my wife, is still teaching English in Santiago, so we’re not moving much around. This will change come late December…
Anyhow: come and have look at our site dare2go.com and our home on the road!

  15. Great compilation of bloggers. I visited the site each of them and decided to agree with you. They can also be my favorites too. I like the way how they write and express their own travel experiences; words are striking to catch the attention of the readers. But on top of the list, I like Adventure Miriam. 🙂
