Traveling can be stressful, especially long-term travel. Fortunately there are plenty of ways to relax while traveling, this week’s FriFotos theme. Below are some of my favorite ways to relax on the road but I’m curious, what are yours? Share your comments and advice below!
Take a hike through the mountains
Find a nice, quiet beach
Turn off your phone and go eat lunch with some locals
Or if you do have to work, at least get an office with a view

Get a massage with friends

Ha, nice chillaxing photos…sorry RELAX photos. Thanks for the shoutout, that was a pretty decent massage that night, thought a tad overpriced haha.
No problem. Actually I meant to make both yours and Seattle’s links but rushed to publish the post before heading out to breakfast and completely forgot. Will fix that momentarily. Speaking of, I’ve definitely linked to your blog in more of my posts than any other. Curious if you have seen any noticeable traffic come your way from it? Also curious if you ever saw my Occupational Hazards Of Travel Blogging post, which does feature a somewhat less-than-glamorous photo of you. (Sorry! It just fit so well.)
Oh and I saw your comments a few days ago but haven’t had time to reply to them, trying to finish a project for a new client now. Will respond this weekend, I promise. Anyway, greetings from Singapore (it’s freakin’ pouring here right now) and best wishes bro ๐
Great snaps. Love your photo archive pal.
I put a map on my fledgling site with some of my best photos on. https://www.flickr.com/photos/119746334@N07/map?&fLat=46.4983&fLon=25.8398&zl=3&order_by=recent
Well thanks Andy but these certainly are nowhere near my best photos, just the ones that most fit the “relax” theme. Your photos on the other hand are impressive. Keep up the good work!
Good idea. I’m no pro but you can’t beat good travel shots.
Well…massages always turn me into jello and help a great deal with jet lag! And your beach walks idea are like magic to me!
Completely agreed Mike! I’m in Singapore now but looking forward to getting back to Jogja where both my chiropractor and my favorite massage parlor in all of southeast Asia are. I’m in need of some serious pampering ๐
Love the ‘Turn off your phone and go eat lunch with some locals.’
Wise advice! Something we should do at home more often too!
I definitely agree and you’re right, we don’t have to be in a foreign country to have lunch with locals. Even way back when I was traveling around my own country I would often stop for food at small family-run restaurants or diners and strike up conversations with people there. Plus that’s how you find out some of the best things to do in the surrounding areas — by talking with the locals ๐
Love connecting with locals Derek, but I was specifically thinking in terms of turning off your smartphone. We need to do that more often, and be in the moment.
Hahaha whoops. But yeah I definitely agree with that as well. Especially for us bloggers, we have a habit of always being on Instagram or Twitter or whatever, instead of actually living in the moment. It can be a tough balancing act sometimes, which is why I find it easier to just turn off the phone and leave it at home (and by that I mean the hotel lol) occasionally.
Love your photos especially the first one! ๐
Thanks! That photo was actually taken with my phone, as were the last two. Occasionally the darn thing actually manages to take some decent photos…key word being ‘occasionally.’ By contrast look at the final photo, the one from Instagram…absolutely horrid. Not sure whether to blame my phone, the darkness, improper lighting, my unsteady hand due to the aggressive muscle-kneading going on just out of frame or all four.
I miss massages in Asia. I wince at the price here
Yeah, I completely agree Arnette. In Jogja the other day I had a phenomenal 2hr massage for $8 ๐
Don’t boast Derek! Hahaha Damn
I’m not boasting Arnette but rather trying to convince you to come back over to my corner of the globe ๐
I know you’re not. Maybe later this year. I’m sitting a lump of points but every time I think I can manage an overseas trip, stuff happens over there…..
