Well, this week we arrived at Monteverde, located up in the mountains about 5,000 feet above sea level. As we made the climb up into the mountains the temperature dropped a good 15-20 degrees and the rain increased steadily. Technically we are in a cloud forest right now. Pretty cool, huh? Just wait til you see the photos.
In 2007 Costa Ricans voted Monteverde one of their seven wonders of Costa Rica. It has also been named by Newsweek as #14 on their list of 100 Places To Remember Before They Disappear and was deemed “the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves” by National Geographic. Hopefully those prestigious awards can help convey just how fantastic this place is.
It’s Friday night, I feel alright….just got some smoke and candy and (of course) a lotta whiskey and tequila 😉 Here in five minutes Jared and I are headed to a fiesta with some local ticos/ticas and a couple of fellow backpackers. Should be a fuckin’ fun night, I’ll let y’all know.. Oh and Jen is sick in Guatemala and has yet to make it to Costa, so now we have no idea idea our plans. Well, not like we really had any before, but still….will keep y’all updated though, as always. Rock on.
Yup, Monteverde is the shit!!!
This post was imported from the old Shibuya Daze, a drunken, laughable travel blog intended only for friends that eventually evolved into The HoliDaze. So why are you reading this old post when you could be enjoying my recent adventures and mishaps
Hello…viewed your pictures and recent update for the first time. Want to move to Costa Rica soon. Thinkin’ of Golfito…you been there yet? Sounds like your having a great time! What part of Rica are you in at present?
Thanks for the comment. We have not been to Golfito, and probably will not make it that far south. We are sticking more to the central, western, and northern areas: Monteverde, La Fortuna, Puntarenas, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, San Jose, etc.. It’s a beautiful country and no matter what your personal preference, be it beaches or countryside or mountains, you can find it here. Just be prepared for lots of insects. That was my biggest concern, because I am not a bug person at all lol.
